Tok sen is an ancient technique that belongs to the oral tradition of Northern Thailand, especially widespread in the Chiang Mai area, and which therefore originates in the region of the Lanna Kingdom. It is performed along the meridians of the body, that is, the same energy channels on which Traditional Thai Massage and Thai Oil Massage work.
It uses special original Thai woods (a "hammer" and a "chisel") with which rhythmic beatings on the body are performed, light and absolutely not painful.
Rural people used this technique to relieve muscle pain from daily work, reactivate circulation and promote the release of adhesions and tissues. With its rhythm, it also promotes a hypnotic, and therefore relaxing, effect on the mind.
This technique was also used to perform spiritual rituals inside temples. Its roots are in fact in numerous pre-Buddhist animist practices and it is still offered today in some temples (Wat) in Chiang Mai as a spiritual practice. In this case, the operators usually use special instruments on which ancient mantras are chiseled.
The treatment is performed on the naked or clothed body, without the use of oils, both on a futon and on a massage bed, on the entire body or even just on a specific area as an adjuvant to other massages, especially Traditional Thai Massage or Decontracting Massage .
